The Department of Music prepares and develops elementary, middle, and high school music teachers who are sound musicians and cultured individuals whose personalities are suited to the profession.

The music department offers courses in education, theory, history, appreciation, conducting, and technology. Students also can participate in various ensembles, including Concert Choir, State Singers (chamber choir), Marching Band, Symphonic Band, Jazz Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble, Woodwind Ensemble, and Guitar Ensemble. These performing groups offer music majors, as well as students in other programs, opportunities for musical enrichment and cultural development.
