2009 WVSU Foundation Annual Dinner Renews Connections

Celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the West Virginia State University Foundation, the 32nd Annual Foundation Dinner was held on May 28, 2009.

Over 200 alumni, business partners, friends, and faculty of West Virginia State converged at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Charleston to honor three prominent individuals: Dr. Michael A. Harpold, renowned scientist; Dr. Ann Brothers Smith, recognized educator; and Mr. L. Newton Thomas, prominent Kanawha Valley philanthropist.  Each of the honorees received a “Second Century Award” clock.  Representing the many students who have received scholarships and awards from West Virginia State were Ms. Lace Butler and Mr. Zebulon Reed.

As Master of Ceremonies, Mr. David Sayre, Chairman of the WVSU Foundation Board of Directors, thanked Tom Dover and the representatives of Bayer CropScience and Steve Walker and the representatives of Walker Machinery /Walker Foundation present at the Dinner for being Diamond Sponsors with contributions of $20,000 each toward WVSU.
 
With the absorption of the West Virginia Rehabilitation Foundation into the WVSU Foundation, Mrs. Janie Hill and Dr. John L. Fuller, Sr. have joined the WVSU Foundation Board of Directors. Mrs. Hill presented a check representing the final funds from the WV Rehabilitation Foundation to the WVSU Foundation. The funds will be used to provide scholarships to disabled students attending WVSU.
